Ranking of the Poker Hands

As everyone knows that there are 52 cards in the deck. The ranking is from high to low, Ace, King, Queen, and Jack, 10, 9, 8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and 1. There is no ranking in the suites, the clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds are all treated the same. The regular poker card is 5 cards. Any hand that has high cards beats the hand with the lowest cards. Some players have heard the terms of these hands before but they really do not know what they mean. The experienced players know but beginners, it can get confusing.

A Royal Flush: This is the highest hand in poker. It will have an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and a Ten and the cards have to be the same suit nit the same color but the same suit. Clubs, Spades, Diamonds or Hearts.

Straight Flush: This is a hand that has 5 cards in the same suit sequence for example, five cards in diamonds like Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight and Seven. If you have an Ace it can be counted as a low card as well to help in the hand of all Spades, Five, Four, Three, Two and Ace.

Four of a Kind, this is self explanatory, you can get 4 of any one kind of card, four Aces, 4 Kings and 4 Three’s, In a case of Four of a Kind it does not matter what the fifth card is, it will not affect your outcome or payout.

Full House: A full house is a hand that has Two of a Kind and Three of a Kind. It could be 3 Queens and two Fives.

Flush: This is a hand of all 5 cards have to be the same suit. They do not have to be in any sequence just in the same suit.

Three of a Kind: Any three cards , the suit does not matter. You can have 3 Jacks and Two Fours. The combination does not matter. Unless you are playing with other people then your goal is to get eth higher hand. But Video Poker you are playing against the computer. So any card scenario will work.

Two Pairs: these are cards that have an equal rank, don’t confuse two pair with just two cards. The two pairs of different numbers would make up the hand. For example two fours, two sixes and one seven. That is a two pair hand.

A Pair: is just a pair of cards that has equal rank and three others cards that do not match these cards. If you have a hand of 7-7-5-4-3 then you will win something.

High Card: This is when a poker hand does not make any sense in the sequence. The high card will win.

By understanding what you need for the play, you can strategize better. You play much better when you know all the rules. Once to you understand the hands that have to be played you will find the game is much more exciting.

Jacks or Better Simple Strategy

Each type of strategy is created based on the type of game you are playing. The best machines to play on are the machines that have a full pay. A full pay machine is better because the return on then can vary from 99.54 percent. These are the machines you want to play on. Here are some of the better hands that you should be playing for. But here are some terms that you may not be familiar with.

High Card: A jack, Queen, King or Ace are considered High Cards. These cards are kept more often then they are discarded in Video Poker. The reason for that is if you can get a pair of a high card then the payout will be better.

Outside straight: An open ended straight that can be completed with cards like 7, 8, 9 or 10.
Inside Straight is a straight that is missing an inside card such as the 6, 7,9,10. Also the Ace,2,3,4 and the Jack, Queen, King and Ace count as an inside straight because they are at the extreme end.

Lets’ say for example that you have a 3, Jack, 5 and a Queen all in clubs and the last card is a 3 of hearts. The top three plays to this hand are

1- Keep the low pair which are the two 3’s
2- Keep the 4 suited cards and go for the flush
3- Keep the suited high cards or dump the 3 of hearts and draw.

There are many different combinations of wining hands that you can play for. The Four of A Kind, Straight Flush, Royal Flush, 4 to a Royal Flush, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush or full House. Then you have the standard Two of a Kind, then the High Cards. Low Pair, 4 to an outside straight and 2 and 3 suited to a flush. There is the 2 unsuited high cars, suited 10 and a Jack, 10 and a Queen or 10 and a King. The one High Card and the go old fashion discard everything because to have no hand.

The simple strategy for Jacks or better can have a decent payout. Most casinos offer the same payout. The Royal Flush pays 800, Straight Flush plays 50, Four of a Kind pays 25, Full House pays 9, Flush pays 6, Straight pays 4, Three of Kind pays 3, and Two pair will pay 1. If you have no hand then there is no payout.

There are many different games to choose from. Video Poker can be a winning game, if you play smart and pay attention to your cards. Since you are playing against the computer you can take your time and think of what you want to do. You aren’t rushed by other players or by the dealer. Take a good look at your cards and see what they can do for you. Once you place a hold on the cards and draw you can’t take it back.

Winning Video Poker

There is a big difference when you play Video Poker than Bodog poker, some people play with strategy and some players play with luck. The numbers in the Video Poker Machines are governed by RNG which means Random Number Generator. The RNG has millions of winning and non winning combinations programmed into the system. But don’t us wrong, there is still luck and strategy involved in this game. The combinations that are available come from the statistics from the deck of 52 cards. The odds are the same if you sat down and played a physical hand of poker. The odds are not in your favor then and they would not be in the casinos. The Royal Flush is the best of the best; you cannot get any higher than that hand. The chances of hitting that hand are 1 in 649,740 hands of Poker.

Luck happens when you get an automatic hand that you can win with. Strategy works because you are allowed to discard a card. This changes the hand as well as the odds. You may be lucky enough to have a Three of a Kind and you want to increase your payout. Maybe you are trying to get that winning hand, remember you can keep as many cards as you want and get rid of as many as you want.

Strategy will depend also on what machine you are playing. If you are playing Jacks or Better you would use one strategy and if you were playing Deuces Wild then you would use an entirely different strategy. There are two kinds if strategies, the basic and the optimal. Most players if they are beginners will stick with the basic strategy and the players who are a bit more experienced will use an optimal strategy to get a better payout.

Playing Poker at the table or playing Video Poker, you have the same odds, if not better on the video poker because you are playing you and the machine as opposed to playing you and other players at the table. There are different ways to play, the strategies are no different then the rest. But if you can follow these simple rules you may come away a winner.

1- Play carefully, read your cards, take your time. You are playing against the machine so there is no hurry.
2- The machines have no memory, so the last hand that was played has nothing to do with the hand you are playing.
3- Always play your hunches, even the best player’s play with strategies. Some players play strictly on hunches. It is ok to do that sometimes hunches pay off.
4- Always know the pay tables. If you understand the pay tables, the more you understand the better player you will be and the more you can increase your winnings.

The Jacks or Better 9/6 has a payout of 99 percent, Jacks or Better 8/5 has a payout of 97 percent and Jacks or Better 6/5 has a payout of 95 percent.

Myths

Here are some myths explained so that you don’t think that this way is the right way to play. Maybe if you see one you thought was true you could change the way you play. Some people believe that all Video Poker Machines play the same there may be some that have a better payout. This is not true; it is the deck of cards that ultimately makes up the probabilities. The Video Poker machines are all random numbers and all of the machines are all digital they are not programmed to payout higher than what the probability of the deck of cards is.

Some players believe that the more money they play the higher their chances of winning are. This is simply not true. The odds in the game are always the same. The amount of money you bet will get you more in terms of a pout because rather than insert a quarter you put in a dollar. The amount of money you put it will not change the randomness of the cards that are shown.

Another common myth is that if you see a machine payout, it will not payout again. Not true, machines are not programmed to not payout again if it just dumped a payout. These machines are programmed randomly. If you are at a machine that has just cashed out, take a chance and play there. Your odds are not any less because you just saw the machine payout.

People also believe that the faster you play the more money you will win. Speed has nothing to do with it. If you play more and more it will not bring the winning hand any closer to you. The odds are no different than if you just simply played the game at a normal pace and played peacefully.

Some people joke that they can predict what card is going to come up. If you believe that then there is a Bridge you can buy. No one can predict the cards, unless you are an experience mathematician there isn’t anyone who can predict the way a computer will dispense a number.
The last common myth that people actually believe is that the machine next to yours can affect your game. There is no way at all that a machine can affect the way your machine is playing. These machines are not networked, they are individually run.

If you have heard of any of these myths and have believed in any of them. We hope we have set you straight. Maybe with these myths exposed you can save some money because you may have believed the myth about playing more will make you win. So we hope we have saved you money. Always play a machine even if there is a payout. The machine doesn’t play depending on what is in the machine; the machine is played by the computer and what cards are dealt. If there is not enough money in the machine, the attendant will simply refill it, payouts have nothing to do with that.

Deuces are Wild

This game has the same Outside and Inside Straights as Jacks are Better does. But in this game there is something called a penalty card. A penalty card is a when you had a potentially useful card was thrown out in favor of a better card. For example, if a player had a 3 to a royal and a 4 to a flush the right way to play that hand would be to keep 3 to the royal and then dump the discard the fourth suited card. The card that you discarded would be called a flush penalty card because it could have been used to complete the flush. When a player gets rid of that type of card and it affects the odds of completing the flush then it is called a penalized card.

Some players believe that if they play more bets that the payout will be better. Not true, no matter how much money you put in will not change the way the cards come out. The cards are programmed to come out randomly. Each machine is progressive more difficult than the Jacks are Better machines. In the game Deuces are wild, the deuces become the wild symbol fro any other card, sometimes in a regular poker game you will hear jokers are wild but in this case the deuces are wild. They can be used as another card except for another 2.

The winning hand in Deuces are Wild are the Royal Flush, Four Deuces, Wild Royal Flush, Five of a Kind, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight and Three of a Kind. With any of these hands you have won, how much you win will depend on the machine and how much they pay out. The pay table will be shown on each machine. If they are not, there will be a help button on the machine that will show you the payouts.

Remember the strategy you have learned here can only be used at this type of game. Just as you cannot take the strategies from Jacks or Better and apply them here because they will not work. As soon as you switch to a new machine you have to adjust to the new game. If you get confused with rules and tips you are not going to do well.

Here are some basic strategies to play Deuces Wild. They are:

Hold only with 4 Wild Cards
3 Wild Plus 2 Cards Wild Royal Flush
2 Wild and 3 of a Kind
1 Wild and 4 of a Kind
1 Wild and 3 of a Kind
1 Wild and 4 Card Flush
1 Wild Card and 2 pair

There are so many different combinations, hands with no wilds, hands with 1 wild, hands with 2, 3 or 4 wilds. The possibilities are endless. If you play the cards right and you analyze your hand then you decrease the chance of getting a penalty card. Listen to your cards and hope for a Deuce.
